The first Loxwood Joust of the year has just taken place. Our own Joint Founder, Colin Deady was privileged to be asked to play Jack Cade, leader of the rebellion sparring (in words and with swords) against Lord Buckingham.
Loxwood is a superb event and we heartedly recommend all consider visiting. The second event is held this coming weekend, 12-13 August.
The Arundel Siege, held over the second May bank holiday weekend of each year was a resounding success. The castle staff and re-enactors all rally closely together to put on a show that brings a real taste of history as a simulated siege of the castle is undertaken.
Under heavy cannon fire the English defenders valiantly saw off the French invasion and the castle is safe for another year.
We next return to Arundel over the August bank holiday for History in Action, a multi-period that has evolved to showcase history from the Roman era through to the 18th century.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!
2017 is shaping up nicely with a number of superb events on the books already. We are looking forward to returning to Arundel for more shows this year: the castle and resident group, Raven Tor, host fantastic weekends for re-enactors and members of the public alike.
More immediately our first practice session is on January 8th in Broughton Gifford village hall, near Chippenham. Please contact us if you want to come along. New, old and prospective members are most welcome.
Hope to see you there.
2016 has proven to be a fantastic success with several new members joining the group and invites received (and attended) for yet more interesting shows. We are coming towards the end of the 2016 season now but do not forget about our monthly meet-up sessions. We train with longsword (and other weapons), practice medieval crafts and play board games including Alea Evangelii. Our meet-ups are held near Chippenham one Sunday of each month in a village hall with tea, coffee and biscuits available.
If you are an existing member or thinking of joining please contact us for more information.
Every two months Wessex Medieval Alliance produces a newsletter for members. The latest issue is distributed to our members and previous issues are are available to all online.
